Lake Health is leading the way to help you achieve better nutrition and safe weight loss that has long-term positive impacts on your health. One way we do this is by offering nutrition counseling by registered dietitians.
What is nutrition counseling?
Nutrition counseling provides flexible–yet realistic–therapeutic diet plans. A therapeutic diet plan is different from a traditional diet because it is tailored to fit your specific nutrition or weight-loss needs. Your physician can help determine your therapeutic need and may refer you to nutrition counseling to restore your nutrition or prevent future nutrition issues.
Who can benefit from nutrition counseling?
Individuals who have specific therapeutic needs can benefit from nutrition counseling and the lifestyle changes that follow. Therapeutic needs include high blood pressure, gastrointestinal problems, high cholesterol, food allergies or intolerances and more. We can help manage any therapeutic need, with the exception of diabetes and kidney disease, which are managed by the Community Health Center staff.
Is nutrition counseling covered by insurance?
Some insurance companies cover visits to a dietitian. Lake Health nutrition counseling requires a physician referral before your first visit with the dietitian. Please ask your doctor to complete the Nutrition Counseling Referral Form and return it to our office before your first nutrition counseling visit.
Lake Health will submit a Nutrition Counseling Referral Form with the doctor’s signature to your insurance company, which authorizes the service and helps documents medical necessity for the referral, as well as the hospital bill for counseling services to your insurance company.
Patients are responsible for checking on insurance coverage. If your insurance company will not cover visits to a dietitian, you will be asked to pay the fee at each visit. Fees can be paid by cash, personal check, MasterCard or Visa.
