UH Lake Health Temporarily Suspends Operations at its Freestanding Emergency Department at UH Madison Health Center
Maintaining access to safe, high-quality care for all of our patients is a top priority of UH Lake Health. COVID-19 has created unprecedented challenges for health systems across Northeast Ohio.
UH Lake Health has temporarily suspended operations at its freestanding emergency department at UH Madison Health Center effective at 3 pm, December 31, 2021. We will continue to assess our staffing needs across the system and use that as a guide for the return of emergency department services at the UH Madison Health Center.
UH Lake Health remains committed to serving the health care needs of the Madison community, where we have a long and continuing presence. Other services at the UH Madison Health Center, including lab, radiology (general x-ray and CT scan), physical therapy and primary and specialty physician care, remain open to patients.
Emergency departments also remain open at UH TriPoint Medical Center, UH Lake West Medical Center, and at UH hospitals in surrounding communities, such as UH Geneva Medical Center. Urgent care centers in Mentor and Willowick along with online virtual care also offer convenient care for patients with minor injuries and illnesses.
“As hospitals across the country are being impacted by the surge in COVID-19 patients, we remain committed to providing the safest and highest quality of care to our patients in Lake County and surrounding communities,” said UH Lake Health President Cynthia Moore-Hardy, FACHE. “This move is for an indefinite period of time as we address immediate needs. We appreciate the flexibility and dedication of our caregivers, who have served our hospitals and community heroically throughout the pandemic.”
UH Lake Health is notifying and discussing the temporary suspension of services at the UH Madison Health Center freestanding emergency department with local and regional first responders and state and federal government officials to ensure that patients are transported to locations providing the appropriate level of care.
UH Lake Health recommends that the best way to avoid serious illness from COVID-19 is to be vaccinated, get your booster, and keep taking all of the standard precautions like social distancing, washing your hands, and of course, masking up — even if you’re vaccinated.
If you are in need of a COVID-19 test, we encourage everyone to visit the State of Ohio’s coronavirus website where local testing centers can be identified.
