Defibrillators (ICD)
If you have a weak heart, you’re at a higher risk for sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest is caused by an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) that prevents the heart from pumping blood to the brain and vital organs.
In this situation, an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) can monitor the heart and treat the arrhythmia within a matter of seconds using an electrical shock that restores the heartbeat to a normal rhythm.
Lake Health offers procedures for all cardiac devices, including pacemakers and defibrillator implantation. Our ICD devices and procedures include:
- Transvenous ICD
- S-ICD
- Cardiac resynchronization for congestive heart failure patients
