Fast Breast MRI Exams
The “Fast Breast MRI” is a low cost, self-pay supplemental study for women with dense breast tissue who want a screening that is more sensitive to breast cancer than mammography. The Fast Breast MRI may detect cancers not visible on a mammogram but is not intended to replace mammography. Routine screening mammograms are still recommended.
The Fast Breast MRI is a 10-minute, self-pay examination that scientific studies have shown to be effective in finding invasive breast cancers. It is ideal for women with dense breast tissue who desire additional breast cancer screening but do not meet the criteria to qualify for a conventional breast MRI study based on their lifetime risk for breast cancer. The conventional breast MRI study (45 minutes) is intended for women with a higher risk for developing breast cancer, such as women with BRCA1/2 genetic mutations. The Fast Breast MRI does not detect the spectrum of diseases that can be detected by the conventional breast MRI exam. As with any screening exam, additional noncancerous lesions may also be detected that may require biopsy or additional follow-up.
We offer Fast Breast MRI exams services at UH TriPoint Medical Center, UH Lake West Medical Center and UH Mentor Health Center.
