Driving Simulator
As a result of aging or disease, some seniors lose their ability to safely drive a car over time. Keeping seniors driving safely for longer boosts independence and keeps them socially connected. Lake Health’s interactive virtual reality driving simulator allows us to test at-risk drivers in a safe environment. The simulator can also be used for patients with traumatic brain injuries, orthopedic injuries, stroke and Parkinson’s disease.
Our driving simulator at Lake West Medical Center takes users through 90 different driving situations in diverse roadway conditions, guided by our physical and occupational therapists. The driving simulator helps us assess issues that could impact the ability to drive safely.
After the assessment, we can create customized training programs to help drivers sharpen their driving skills.
Insurance may cover the fee for a driver assessment.
