Expanded services will deliver crucial heart and vascular care
As one of the first programs being expanded as a result of the integration between University Hospitals and Lake Health, residents in Lake County and surrounding communities now have access to University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. Specialists and services from UH are now available at University Hospitals Lake West Medical Center. Lake West and TriPoint medical centers joined University Hospitals in April of 2021.
The Vascular Center of UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute is a multidisciplinary program dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of any condition that affects the body’s blood vessels, including arteries, veins and lymphatic system. This team provides a complete range of vascular services, from diagnosis to the most advanced surgical and endovascular interventions, with comprehensive post-treatment care.
Dr. Jae Cho and Dr. Tarek Hammad will now provide local services at UH Lake West Medical Center in Willoughby, supported by expedited access to the network of UH vascular providers for individual patient needs. These experts can diagnose and treat patients with a wide range of vascular conditions, including peripheral artery disease, aneurysms, carotid artery disease and venous disease.
“The Lake County General Health District estimates that approximately 8,000 people in Lake County suffer from vascular disease. Left untreated, vascular disease can cause stroke, limb loss or even death,” said John Baniewicz, MD, Chief Medical Officer for UH Lake Health. “With the addition of this program at UH Lake Health, we can help prevent those outcomes. No matter how challenging a heart or vascular condition is, we’re here to care for our community.”
“University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute is dedicated to providing the highest quality care for all patients,” said Mehdi Shishehbor, DO, MPH, PhD, President, UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute; Angela and James Hambrick Master Clinician in Innovation; and Professor at the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. “As we expand services, we will ensure the needs of patients are met. Our team has the latest tools and therapies available to continue to deliver truly personalized care for patients where and when they need it most.”
